Automatically Send Tax Deduction Receipts for Charitable Donations

Provide customers with a tax deduction receipt when they make a charitable donation at checkout. This MESA workflow template automatically emails a tax-deductible receipt to customers, detailing their contribution to a nonprofit organization. Simplify record-keeping for your customers and support their charitable giving by making it easy to claim deductions on their federal income taxes.

Follow the steps below to set up this workflow.

Step 1

Enable the tipping options from your Shopify admin if you haven't done so already.

From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Checkout.

In the Tipping section, check Show tipping options at checkout.

If you want to hide the tipping options, uncheck Show tip options to all customers. In this case, the customer must check a check box to display the tip options.

Under TIP OPTIONS, enter a value in percent in the Option fields. You can add up to three different values.

Click Save.

Step 2

Configure your language labels for donations to charity.

Log in to your store as a user with  Settings permissions.

From your Shopify admin, under SALES CHANNELS, click Online Store, and then click Themes.

In the Current theme section, click Actions > Edit Languages.

Click Checkout & system, and then scroll to the field that you want to change.

Enter the label text that you want to appear on the checkout page.

Click Save.

Step 3

Return to your MESA workflow.

In the Email step, customize the email that will be sent out by adjusting the Message field. 

Step 4

At the top of or below the workflow, click the Save changes button to save your changes.

Step 5

At the top or bottom of the page, switch Off to On to turn on your workflow to start automating.


Optional Customizations

Optionally, change the address your email comes from. In the Email step, click More fields at the bottom of the step. Select From Email Address and fill in an email address.
