Add Shopify Product Tags Using SKU Pattern Rules

This workflow applies product tags in Shopify by matching SKU patterns to predefined tag rules. When SKUs match the patterns you set, MESA adds the corresponding tags to those products. The applied tags help build collections, sort inventory, and create customer-facing product filters. Rather than manually tagging products, this workflow maintains consistent product organization as you add new items to your catalog.

🔧  Setup is needed:
âž•  Define the product tags and SKU patterns

Follow the steps below to set up this workflow.

Step 1

In the Tags Mapping to SKU Patterns step, replace the placeholder values with your own data. Map the patterns in the SKU to the tag that will be added if present. The "Key" will be the tag that will be added to the product, and the "Value" will be the pattern that MESA will be looking for in the SKU.
Example:
Key = Book
Value = LION-
If you have a product with the SKU LION-WITCH-WARDROBE-001. MESA would identify this as a pattern match in the SKU and, therefore, add the tag "Book" to the product. Please note that the value is case-sensitive.

Step 2

Click on Save button.

Step 3

Run the workflow with an existing product before turning it on.

Scroll to the top and click the Shopify Product Created trigger. Click Manual run.

Select any existing product and click Run workflow.

Step 4

At the top of or below the workflow, click the Save button to save your changes.

Step 5

At the top or bottom of the page, switch Off to On to turn on your workflow to start automating.

Time Travel

Run a time travel to apply the updates to the entire product catalog. Please only run the time travel after you have confirmed that the workflow is set up successfully and tested it properly with tagging a few of your products.
